Mirror Image - Text / Su Yuming
My inspiration thrives in the peculiar connection between my personal experience growing up and popular images. Through childhood and youth, I embed my growth within the tremendous transformation of the urban environment and within the nihilism and absurdity of the Internet. Life surfaced as a fragmentary image, enlightening me and pushing me to describe and interrogate this feeling of floating between abstraction and reality. Through painting, I switch senses and moods as I travel between the real and the fictive; I grasp people’s multifarious representations to form new orders in the realm of image. The process is just like how we perceive of the world: fickle, always liable to the feelings in the moment. I hope my works can constitute a mirror that accurately captures and reflects the complexity of society, and thereby helps us return to the most deeply hidden and truest selves inside.

我的创作灵感来自于人成长经历与大众图像之间的某种关联性，童年与青春日新月异的城市环境变化与网络空间的虚无荒诞让生活本身呈现出破碎的面貌，我从中受到启发，试图进而描述与追问这种游离于抽象与真实之间的感受。我通过画面在真实与虚幻之间进行感知或情绪的切换，反射出社会中人们的多元面貌，从而形成新的秩序。就像我们对世界的认知，阴晴不定，总掺杂着当时的情绪。我希望通过作品形成一面镜子，精准地捕捉并反射出复杂的社会性的同时，帮助我们回归到内心深处最真实隐秘的自我。
