萨扎布 Lkhajav b. 1986
Lkhajav, Mongolian, was born in 1986 in Xilingol League, Inner Mongolia, and currently lives in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. He received an MA in Art Studies from the National University of Mongolia and his BA in Painting from the Institute of Fine Arts, University of Arts and Culture (MUAC), in Mongolia. Lkhajav’s work has been included in notable exhibitions and venues, including the Mongolian National Art Gallery; Daniel Castle in Romania; Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum; Guangdong Times Museum; Aranya Golden Mountains Inner Mongolia Contemporary Art Museum; and The Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum in Mongolia.
Lkhajav’s artistic practice is intellectually anchored in the nomadic psyche, engaging profoundly with the symbolic and philosophical frameworks of nomadic culture. His work interrogates the sacred principles governing a harmonious coexistence with nature, alongside the mystical, divine, and inviolable inner laws that underpin both human and natural orders. His creations are often closely intertwined with natural elements, the living conditions, and the cultural background of Mongolian grasslands. He regards the materials obtained from nature, traditional utensils, and even objects from livestock as creative materials. Each of these materials has its own unique history, era, and symbolic meaning. Besides physical objects, he also employs special skills and methods hidden in traditional life that are suggestive, making the works more substantial, persuasive, natural, and appropriate, and imbued with a soul.
